Detention for music

A Belarusian singer’s concert on the terrace of a Minsk bar on August 3 led to her arrest. She performed a song in Ukrainian and appeared on stage wearing a white T-shirt with a red heart. A video of the performance spread across social media, sparking a wave of aggression from pro-government Telegram channels, which accused her of supporting the 2020 protests and “extremism.”

The next day, the bar was inspected by health and emergency services. The singer, the venue’s owner, and his wife were detained. Later, a “confession” video appeared, claiming that one of her songs falls under Article 130 of the Criminal Code of Belarus (“Incitement of racial, national, religious, or other social hatred”), and that the concert proceeds were allegedly meant to fund “terrorism.”
