Detention for tea gathering in the courtyard

A resident of Zhdanovichi was detained after the police identified him in a photograph of a tea gathering in the courtyard. The protocol stated that he joined citizens who had white-red-white flags, which was considered illegal picketing. The man said he was just passing by, picked up his children from a dance class, and then decided to have tea with his neighbors while discussing local issues.

After the arrest, he was transferred to a detention center, and the trial took place the next day via Skype. Yevgeny stated that he had been drinking tea since childhood and remembered the white-red-white flag from school textbooks, but the court did not find this convincing. He was found guilty of violating the procedure for holding a mass event and was fined 270 BYN.

After his release, his phone and personal belongings were not returned, and other participants of the tea gathering, including his mother-in-law, were also detained.

The damage to Minsk from unauthorised protests amounted to more than 750,000 BYN.
